Golam Islam

Golam is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Desaulniers Lab. Golam completed his MSc and PhD degrees from the Molecular Science program at Ryerson University. His area of expertise focuses on using molecular techniques such as real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to characterize gene expression in microorganisms. He is fascinated by the intricate mechanisms of gene editing and the potential to use siRNA as therapeutic agents. Currently, he is working on a surveillance project in collaboration with Profs. Kirkwood and Simmons on detecting the SARS-CoV-2 viral strain from wastewater.

Matthew Hammill

Matt Hammill grew up in Cobourg Ontario, 90 minutes east of Toronto, and attended Trent University for his BSc in Biochemistry. He graduated with his PhD in Chemical Biology at Ontario Tech University in 2021. Currently, he is a postdoctoral fellow in the Desaulniers lab, where he focuses on developing chemically-modified short-activating and interfering RNAs. Outside of school, Matt plays sports such as fencing and softball, but also enjoys reading, video games and spending time with friends and family.
